The Family Carnevali began operations in 1988. With my father Vasco and my mother Vanna we got straight to work. Proud of the history, traditions and the potential of our coast and in love with Marina di Pisa, we wanted the future of this resort also to became ours. After so many years of commitment, sacrifice, stimulating challenges and hard choices, we can say that we’ve made it. Today Bagno Azzurro is an enterprise that, with its services and its facilities, and thanks to the professionalism of the many people who are part of our team, best summarizes the character, the vitality of this part of Tuscany, a charming area where land and sea meet and cooperate to sculpt the shapes of things, the flavors, the mood of the people living in Marina.
Almost thirty years spent to mantain all parts of Bagno Azzurro to be a complete, efficient and friendly machine. It was good, but not easy. Very often the way was hard and steep. From the beginning, the first problems. Coastal erosion: two words that locals, like so many other people that live in the sea areas concerned by this type of phenomenon, know well. The coastline retreated, and soon, in the first few years of operations, the first painful choice: having to tear down the apartments to make way to the beach. A real disaster. From there, the decision to build, at our full expense, the cliff that faces our stretch of beach. And then further investments to improve facilities, optimize consumption, increase the potential of a machine that, to be effective, needs to be oiled always the best.
Who makes our job knows how much energy requires such a resort, and how a business enterprise of this kind absorbs forces, thoughts, the heart of those who work there. For this reason, for years, we rose our voice, our disagreement, when cyclically emerged the controversy regarding the maritime authorizations. Complex matter, full of contradictions. First, the Baldini law that seemed to protect and foster our investments, then the u-turn impressed by the Bolkestein European Directive: a continuous zig zag of statements, thoughts, sudden political and legal steering, the government suddenly becomes a menacing shadow, able in a moment to wipe out decades of dedication and commitment. Politicians plan to make room for other operators who suddenly should benefit for free of a creature that did not create.
A sword of Damocles hanging over our heads for years, a real psychological torture against which we try to mobilize public opinion. Injustice, in our view. That, among other things, prevented this territory to grow and develop as it could have – when you see the looming possibility that the company of your family will be taken away to be entrusted to others, the last thing you will do is to invest in that company – if its many potential had not been clipped by unfair laws.
Tracing the history of the commitment that my family, for almost thirty years, dedicated to Bagno Azzurro, I wanted to point on a matter that, to date, for us resort managers, is an open wound. To remind those who want to read these notes, despite everything, we try to make the most of our work, and we intend to go on manifesting our disagreement, our anger, making information. We will never give up a battle we believe in. This is our life”
